When new homeowners move in, the yard doesn't always match the vision they have for the place. Existing beds can look tired, overgrown, or just plain mismatched. That's exactly what we were working with here - a Northville home that had good bones but needed a fresh start to really come together.

We came in and did a full remulch across all the beds, front and side. Fresh dark mulch makes a huge difference. It unifies everything, makes the plants pop, and instantly gives the property a cleaner, more intentional look. It's one of those improvements that's easy to underestimate until you see it done right.

The plant selection and placement were just as important as the mulch. We worked with a mix of evergreens, ornamental shrubs, and perennials to give the beds structure and variety. Upright arborvitae along the driveway add some vertical interest without blocking sightlines. Hydrangeas, lavender, and a handful of accent plants fill in the rest with color and texture throughout the season.

What makes a landscape refresh like this work is that it doesn't try to overdo it. The existing mature trees - the Japanese maples, the large shade tree out front - are already doing a lot of the heavy lifting. We designed around them, not over them. The result is a yard that feels put-together and welcoming without looking like it was forced.

For new homeowners especially, getting the landscaping dialed in early makes the whole property feel like yours. Clean beds, thoughtful plant choices, and a solid layer of fresh mulch go a long way toward making a house actually feel like a home.
